David Bowie Micro Exhibition.
This exhibition ran from 10th December 2016 – 9th January 2017
In conjunction with the Duffy Archive, Tooth & Claw presented these images for the first time in the South West.
An expanded version of our micro-exhibition is now running at The Proud Gallery in Chelsea, London… From 7th January, to coincide with what would have been Bowie’s 70th Birthday, to 19th February 2017.
All prints from the exhibition are available to purchase on our website in our “Art & Photography” section and a small selection of the prints are kept in stock at our Brixham store.
Photographer Brian Duffy aka ‘Duffy’ shot five photographic sessions with Bowie between 1972 and 1980.
Duffy began his career as a fashion photographer in the 1960’s.
Along with David Bailey and Terence Donovan, the trio revolutionized fashion photography, taking the form from the formal ‘Norman Parkinson’ style and creating the hip, swinging, space age images that immediately come to mind when thinking of that era.
Duffy’s first album cover for Bowie was the massively successful ‘Aladdin Sane’. Duffy also photographed the covers for the albums ‘Lodger’ and ‘Scary Monsters’.
In 1979 Duffy walked away from the world of photography and took the extreme step of burning his own work in the yard of his studio.
Much of his work was destroyed. The prints in this ‘micro’ exhibition are taken from the negatives that were saved.
